Dead Dads: Ian F.G. Dunn
(Main Gallery)

In his newest series, "Dead Dads," Ian F.G. Dunn explores the father-son connection through a series of portraits taken of sons as they recount memories of their deceased fathers. By asking the men to tell a story about their fathers, Dunn is able to capture the men in moments of honest reflection, where for a brief moment, they may forget about the camera. The result is a reflection of the human bond between father and son.

Dunn is a founding member of Film9 Collective, a group of artists devoted to the process and preservation of analog photography . Each image is developed as a silver gelatin print by the artist's own hand in a darkroom. Dunn and the Film9Collective believes that "nothing compares to the tangible relationship one forms with their images in the darkroom." The care taken in developing the prints is evident within Dunn's portraits, and it is through the process that Dunn pays tribute to the important and complex relationships between sons and their fathers.
