Mia Yoon: Color Elements

Exhibition Image

Jun 6, 2014 - Jul 27, 2014

Mia Yoon's exhibition, Color Elements, shows us a playful exploration of color relationships. Gradients between highly saturated colors are the focus of her paintings which show us bright bands of color acting upon larger fields of color. These fields of color are treated with a softness that offers them a sense of luminescense. In her installation work the viewer is presented with gradients through a form of optic blending at an impressive scale. The installation work and the paintings relate across the gallery creating a space in which viewers may walk in between the full range of the visible color spectrum and experience the inherent positivity of color for themselves.

Yoon is most interested in the perception of space. By incorporating line and geometry, she tries to manipulate the sense of light with colors to the point of creating an optical illusion or sensation. The works produce a sense of vibration by using colors and subtle changes to create attraction and repellency.
